PCI CAN Series 2, single port, seems to interfere with booting BIOS and Windows XP

Hello agian,

I'm strongly suspecting a hardware failure with a CAN card I have here.   Yesterday my machine suddenly and completel locked up while I was debugging a C++ application which uses CAN.  I tried to reboot but the machine ( a Gateway E-Series P4) would either simply not boot (no BIOS screen) or would appear to boot and then freeze.   In a couple cases it got so far as booting XP but was then either frozen or the network interface was off (verified by the indicator on a 4 port hub.)  I tried all three open PCI slots and could discern no effect.

I opened it up and saw that the green LED on the card would go on and off few times during the process.  No rhyme or reason to it that I could discern.   I installed a spare 2-port card and the problem did not occur.   Later I put the old card back in and everything seemed fine for a while and then the machine locked up hard again.  This time I wasn't running my CAN application.   Back to the 2-port card and everything seems fine.

Neither card failed self test in the M&A explorer.

Does this sound like a hardware failure of some sort with the CAN card?   Anything else I can try to pin it down?

thanks

Hi,

I assume thats a hardware failure and you should contact NI for repair.
