How to Communicate with a John Deere VCU using NI USB-8476s and LabView

I have no idea where to even begin!  My objective is to establish communication between LabView and a John Deere tractor Vehicle Control Unit.  I want to be able to turn on and off certain inputs and outputs and perform certain functions.

Where do I begin?

There are many people at John Deere that have done this. Folks at PEC in Waterloo, Iowa, USA; Tech Center India in Pune, India; and folks in Mannheim, Germany.
