Reading Type K Thermocouple with myRIO

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a myRIO (board only) and I need to read type K thermocouple measurements for an internal PID.  Am I able to do this directly into the board?  Or will I need an adapter?

Please be as specific as possible.

Thank you.

You will need a way to connect to the MXP connectors on the myRIO.

The following MXP Breadboard is an example.

Thanks for the reply!

Is there a wiring diagram for doing this?  I am not an electrical engineer, so please bear with me.

The MXP connectors just plug in to each other. You just need the female version of the connector.

So am I able to plug this directly to the myRIO board?  I have the board only.

And is there a wiring diagram for the thermocouples?  I assume each row in the MXP is represented by a pin that connects to the board, so is there a particular order I need to attach the thermocouples? Or can I just specify in the LabView which row corresponds to the + or - of each thermocouple?

Thank you for your help and patience!

The above listed connector is the connector for the myRIO board only.

Aditionally, the k type thermocouple has a + and - connection. So the + needs to go to one of the analog inputs and the - needs to go to AGND, analog ground. See page 5 of the below myRIO 1950 manual for the connector pinout.
