NI myDAQ compatible with LabVIEW 2024 on Win 11?

I use LabVIEW 2024 Q3 on Windows 11. Found a used myDAQ for sale, figured it might be fun to try. It appears to require NI-ELVISmx, and only the most recent version (2025 Q4) appears to be compatible with Windows 11 according to this page: https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-elvismx.html. However, that seems to contradict the compatibility table on this page: https://www.ni.com/en/shop/software-portfolio/ni-product-compatibility-for-microsoft-windows-11.html. Also, I can't find any information online about compatibility with LabVIEW. I understand that generally speaking there's a three or so year compatibility window, but as myDAQ appears to be a legacy product, I can't be certain. Any clarity on this?

Hi

I know the thread is soon 2 month old and probably irrelevant by now.

But it surprised me ..

A new version of ELVIS in Jan 2026, which has otherwise not seen updates since the 19 version from 2019 ..

Reading a little more reveals it is a bugfix :

Bug Number

Legacy ID

Description

Details

2997986

ELVISmx installation on Windows 11 may cause a system crash (blue screen)

Installing ELVISmx on certain Windows 11 systems may cause a system crash (blue screen) during the installation process.

Workaround:

Fixed in NI-ELVISmx 2025 Q4.

Reported Version:

NI-ELVISmx 19.0

Resolved Version:

NI-ELVISmx 2025 Q4

Added:

N/A

So although Windows 11 is not officially supported, NI quietly fixed an installation issue with Windows 11. Nice.

= = = =

To your question.

From NI-ELVISmx download :

NI-ELVISmx provides support for customers using the NI ELVIS II and NI ELVIS II+ models of the NI ELVIS and the myDAQ Student Data Acquisition Device.

NI-ELVISmx is driver software that supports NI ELVIS II, NI ELVIS II+, and the myDAQ device.

NI-ELVISmx includes the NI ELVISmx Instrument Launcher, LabVIEW Express VIs, and SignalExpress steps for programming NI ELVIS II/II+ hardware.

I have LabVIEW 2024 Q3 installed with ELVIS 19 and NI-DAQmx 2024 Q4 in Windows 10. Works fine with a myDAQ. I would assume the bug fixed ELVIS version would work in Windows 11.

Hi again

This ELVIS BSOD triggered me to do additional search and I found this from Aug 2025 :

How to install ELVISmx on Windows 11

https://knowledge.ni.com/KnowledgeArticleDetails?id=kA0VU00000060yD0AQ

With this text excerpt :

The ELVISmx driver is getting a Blue Screen when it is installed on a computer with Windows 11.

As ELVISmx is not supported on Windows 11, but ELVISmx 19.0 is the most recent version to use it, the temporary workaround to use the ELVISmx Instrument Launcher with myDAQ, ELVIS I, or ELVIS II is installing the following software in this order:

  1. NI-DAQmx 2024 Q3.
  2. LabVIEW Runtime 2018 SP1.
  3. ELVISmx 2019.

Please note that the machine must be without NI Software before installing the drivers.

I don't understand what NI hints at with the text marked in orange. But I guess they try to say that Windows 11 is usable. Without actually promising it.

Hi again

The new version of ELVISmx is a bugfix to a legacy software product, already deprecated for several years.

But NI chose to give it a new version number and not just add a patch revision to the existing version.

This is a mess because we associate compatibility to other NI product based on the version number. So selecting the 2025 number we assume it will install its VI's in any of three previous LabVIEW versions ( 2022 to 2024 ) as well as the 2025 version. It does not.

Now NI also stopped including any Release Notes since long, so we actually don't know what NI thinks we should use this release for.
