Sr. Embedded Software Engineer - Boulder

Job Type:                    Contract (Successful candidates are employees of BPTS)

Length of Contract:   1 year with opportunity for more

Pay:                             $55-$65/hr ($114,400 - $135,200/year)

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Embedded Software Engineer will have primary responsibility to design, develop, test and integrate test system software and hardware for a variety of applications including subsystem command and data handling, low level hardware control, automation, custom interfaces, and communication software for ground, airborne and/or space systems.

The technical work environment is dynamic and requires a person who is comfortable operating at a fast pace, is detail oriented, and who drives for results, execution and excellence.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

  • Perform requirements, analysis and decomposition, support system level architecture definition and software design.
  • Implement and certify test systems in the labs using commercial test equipment
  • Applications are programmed in LabVIEW. Formal software development methodologies apply.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

  • Experience with LabVIEW and other NI technologies: TestStand, LabVIEW Real-Time, LabVIEW FPGA and Device Drivers.
  • Experience with the following interfaces: GPIB, Serial, VXI, custom DIO, Ethernet, VISA, IVI, PXI.
  • Motion system and Vision system experience is desirable.
  • Ability to apply sound software engineering principles to the development of software through the full lifecycle
  • Experience working and/or leading efforts that require software requirements definition and analysis, architecture definition, design, implementation and test
  • Ability to operate at the system level and interface to all engineering disciplines
  • Ability to grasp new technical concepts including hardware/software interactions, real-time processing, and concepts of operations
  • Self -starter, references that confirm good interpersonal and communication skills, ability to work independently and on a team
  • Working knowledge of configuration management principles
  • Working knowledge of software quality principle.

An active or previous clearance is desirable.

Applicant selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

  • BS in Engineering or a related technical field is strongly preferred plus 8 or more years related experience.
  • In addition to the typical educational and experience requirements, a demonstrated capability to adequately perform the essential functions and responsibilities of the position and exhibit the skills and competencies of the grade level should be considered. Each higher level degree, i.e. Ph.D. may substitute for two years of experience.


This job opportunity is to support a long-term contract and requires little or no travel.   It does require availability during core business hours for an average of 40 hours per week.  The salary earning levels are competitive with paid time-off, 401(k) Plan and employees may self-fund cafeteria benefits.  Preference is given to qualified individuals having references that can substantiate your excellent communications and interpersonal skills.  College graduates with leadership and technical backgrounds are desired.  Minorities and women are encouraged to apply.

We have an opening posted at Droplet Measurement Technologies for a EE.  We use a lot of LabVIEW at DMT, so getting someone with good LV background would definitely be a plus.  Here's the full posting:

Electrical Development Engineer

Job Responsibilities:

Droplet Measurement Technologies is seeking an electrical engineer to support the design and development of scientific measurement instrumentation.  Responsibilities include design, prototype, and testing of analog and digital electronic circuits, including embedded microprocessors/microcontrollers and FPGAs.  Development within a team environment will be from initial concepts through hardware/software integration, testing, and documentation.

Required:

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3+ years experience in developing embedded systems
  • Digital and analog design expertise
  • Ability to write C language code
  • Experience with PCB layout
  • Experience with Verilog and/or VHDL for firmware development
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, high integrity, team player
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously

Desired:

Display Systems Engineer - LON25360

Description

The FLCOS Microdisplay Division at Micron is seeking to fill a position for a display systems engineer. As a Systems Engineer at Micron, you will be part of a highly collaborative team responsible for developing, prototyping, measuring and validating future technologies for microdisplay products.

Your responsibilities will be equally split between software development and electronic design. The software component requires strong LabVIEW programming skills to automate test equipment for the characterization of display panel and engine products. The electronic design component covers all phases of hardware development of microcontroller based systems from definition to deployment. Familiarity with Microchip PIC architecture and Xilinx FPGA development is a plus.

Qualifications

Successful candidates for this position will have:

  • 5+     years experience coding with LabVIEW.
  • 3+     years experience with NI-DAQ hardware.
  • Solid     experience with object oriented programming (LabVIEW , C#, C++, Java,     VB.Net).
  • 3+     years of experience with schematic capture and electronic design.     Preference given to Orcad schematic capture and Cadence design tools.
  • Experience     with SQL/MySQL.
  • Exceptional     debug skills and expertise with lab equipment including oscilloscopes,     logic analyzers, and protocol specific instruments.
  • Ability     to work with outside contractors and vendors.
  • Ability     to work on multiple development tasks simultaneously.
  • Self     motivated with the initiative to work independently.
  • Excellent     problem solving skills.
  • Excellent     communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience     with FPGA development, preferably with Verilog and Xilinx tool suites.
  • Experience     with microcontroller system design and programming. (Preferred)

  • Experience     with SVN version control. (Preferred)
  • Understanding     of liquid crystal display and video principles. (Preferred)

I have two customers who are looking for engineers in the CO Springs area.  One is in the Mil/Aero industry and is looking for a software engineer, potentially with experience in LabVIEW and TestStand.  The second is in the pollution control industry and is looking for someone with LabVIEW experience and experience in the industrial/process control world.
