topic Why does Game Tools require PXI? in General

I'm running into the following issue when installing LabVIEW and Game Tools on a new laptop: BSOD: nipcibrd.sys SECURE_PCI_CONFIG_SPACE_ACCESS_VIOLATION - NI Community Based on that thread, I uninstalled any package with PXI in the name, and the BSODs on boot stopped. However, doing so also uninstalled game tools. It doesn't seem to make sense that game tools would need PXI. Why are they linked in the package manager?

Hi Sciencewhiz,

Thanks for posting on the forums. I'm Matthew with NI. While I have some guesses, I'm posting this question internally so I can make sure to get you an accurate answer.

Well, the official answer is a little less specific than I hoped:

> Because the driver station requires compactRIO driver to talk to the roboRIO, and because the compactRIO driver requires some PXI packages to provide functionality for PXI boards that have RIO functionality, uninstalling everying *pxi would have also removed the compactRIO driver, which in turn would have removed the driver station.

That matches what I experienced.

This was the workaround that I used to remove the pxi stuff without removing the DS. https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/How-to-disable-the-nipcibrd-sys-driver-to-prevent-hibernation/m-p/4315739#M1262756

Any chance the 2024 installer could use more fine grained dependencies?

Here's another person who's had the same problem.

As more laptops enable virtualization based security and modern standby, I expect this will become even more prevalent. This thread makes it look like this problem still exists in more recent LabVIEW versions also. https://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/BSOD-nipcibrd-sys-SECURE-PCI-CONFIG-SPACE-ACCESS-VIOLATION/m-p/4284462

Two more people who've had the problem in the beta responded to my issue there. https://github.com/wpilibsuite/2024Beta/issues/7

The good news is that newer versions of PXI platform services fixed the issue for me, which is much easier to do then my previous workaround of uninstalling only ni-pcibrd without uninstalling PXI.
