Welcome to the NI TestStand Toolkit for Large Application Development!

This thread is intended to foster discussion regarding the NI TestStand Toolkit for Large Application Development. Please post any comments or questions about the toolkit here, and I will be happy to respond.

The NI TestStand Toolkit for Large Application Development will consist of an number of features which we will release as they are available.  The first feature is the NI TestStand Type Differ tool.

Introduction:
Managing types across an organization is often a significant challenge TestStand developers face when creating large applications. TestStand can resolve conflicts that occur when you load multiple versions of a type concurrently, but automatic conflict resolution hides the specific details of the differences. The NI TestStand Type Differ tool compares and merges differences between types and therefore manages type conflicts more effectively.

Download NI TestStand Type Differ from here.

System Requirements:
•    NI TestStand 4.0
•    Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later

Kind Regards,

Allen Piscitello

Downloaded OK but the setup.exe just gives an error so I can't get it installed.

ConfigInfo.cpp(2653): IInstallerError 11006
Developer Error. The following errors were found in your ini file:
1. Specified file not found: [MsiEngine] WinNTPath = supportfiles\WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe

Correct the ini file and try again.

Make sure you have unzipped the file keeping the same directory structure.  The directory structure should be as follows:

Root:
nidist.id
setup.exe
setup.ini

SupportFiles\
customResource0009.dll
merged.cab
niPie.exe
NISysInf.dll
WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe

bin\dp\
DevPartDef.xml
NI TestStand Type Differ.cab
NI TestStand Type Differ.msi

license\
NI Labs Evaluation License.rtf

Hi,

I'd like to use this tool, but I don't believe I have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later which is required to use this tool.

Is there a way to find out if it's already installed on my system? Is it possible to use the tool without it?

Thanks in advance,

Joe

It is not possible to use the Type Differ tool without the .NET 2.0 Framework.

Here is how you can determine what versions of the Framework are installed:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318785

If you do not have it installed, you can get it from Microsoft's website, use Windows Update.  If you have install Teststand 4.0, the .NET 2.0 Framework is also automatically installed for you.  You can get the evaluation here:

The Sequence File Viewer is now available as the third feature of the NI TestStand Toolkit for Large Application Development.

Introduction:
Use the NI TestStand Sequence File Viewer application to view and print TestStand sequence files without installing TestStand. You can also use the Sequence File Viewer application to view steps, step properties, sequences, and variables, and to navigate the hierarchy of the sequence calls in a TestStand sequence file.

Requirements:
  1. TestStand sequence files saved in XML format using TestStand 4.0, 4.0.1 or 4.0.1f1
  2. Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 7.0 or greater or Mozilla Firefox 2.0 or greater

This tool is made for examining sequence files on systems that do not have TestStand installed, which is useful for code reviews and general documentation.

OK, I'm a little confused.

The initial message of this thread showed:

System Requirements:
•    NI TestStand 4.0
•    Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 or later

So now I just want to be clear, if I have TestStand 4.0 (which I do), I do not need to install Microsoft .NET Framework to use toolkit. Correct?

Joe,

To answer your question -

If you have TestStand 4.0 installed, you do not need to install Microsoft .Net 2.0 Framework to use the toolkit.
TestStand 4.0 installs the Microsoft .Net 2.0 Framework.

I am running Teststand 4.0 as an Evaluation Installation and I cannot see how to save a Sequence File in XML Format.
The Sequence Viewer documentation refers to the Test Stand Reference Manual but I there is no mention of any such function in that document.

Can anyone tell me "How to ...  " ?

Thanks
Anke
