NIVXI on RHEL 5

Solved!
Go to solution

I have the VXI-MXI2 package and installed NIVXI on RHEL 5.3  (kernel 2.6.18-128.el5), I built the kernel driver with a few minor mods to get it to build, and it loads without errors (other than license complaint in /var/log/messages):

kernel:  vximod:  module license 'unspecified' taints kernel

    kernel:  VXI: initialized

I can see the kernel driver when I do a lsmod.

but running vxiinit reports:

   Unable to initialize hardware.

I have the PCI-MXI2 card installed and see it when I do a lspci,

07:08.0     Bridge:  National Instrumens Unknown device a001 (rev 01)

and the cable is correctly connected to it and connected to the slot 0 VXI-MXI2 card.

I saw in other posts there were more significant changes to the kernel driver to run on CentOS 5, but the links to these changes are now dead.  Is there more to this driver that I need to modify?

Thanks in advance.

Found the issue.   BIOS on system was old and wasn't working with PCI card.  Tried a PC with a newer motherboard and BIOS and vxiinit and resman worked fine.
