Fast data transfer between linux based PC and VME bus, secondary controller

Hi,

I would like to add a second VME controller to a more than 20 years old VME rack. With that second controller I would like to control the VME instruments from a modern computer. The 'modern' computer has to be linux based. The current main controller (slot 1) is a SBS915 from performance technologies. I'm looking for hardware which is able to 'be' secondary controller and has a optical connection between PC and VME rack. The distance between VME rack and new PC is around 6m. So far I have found the ni MXI-2 /VME board, but are there other solutions?

it is possible to do that with the MXI bridge, yes, the distance of 6m will not be an issue. I reckon. The optical fibre is not supported at the moment.

I would recommend you to call your Regional Field Engineer, which can be found here: germany.ni.com/vertrieb/

These guys might have a more customized approach.
