Can I use my USRP to produce desired wave in 1Mhz center frequency

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

I'm preparing to establish an ultrasonic communication system whose center frequency is 1Mhz. But I found the adjustable frequency of all USRP devices higher than 1Mhz. There is a device USRP-2943R(adjustable frequency 1.2Ghz to 6Ghz) in our lab. I want to use this device to produce the desired wave and drive my transducer. Is it achievable?

Thanks a lot !

Hi,

No, you can not use the 2943 by itself to generate a 1 MHz signal.

The lowest frequency supported by USRP RIO platform is 10 MHz (using USRP-2944)

You might want to check other NI function generator hardware:

http://www.ni.com/white-paper/3348/en/

If you have to use a 2943 you need a RF downconvertor which will be connected to the 2943's output to bring the signal down to the frequency you want.

OR

Use a RF signal generator which goes down to 1 MHz.

Also another important factor might be the current drive/power requirements of the ultra-sound transducer. I am not sure that the RF port of the USRP RIO will provide enough power.

So I think it might be better to look at a low cost function generator like NI Virtual Bench (may be) and not a RF device for your application.
