Hello,
after installing Developer Suite 2010 we have problems with the Switch Executive Virtual Device Test Panel. The problems has not been seen on older revisions.
The Test Panel takes about 3 minutes to initialize. This only happens after MAX has been launched and the Test Panel is used the first time.
In the example attached there is no hardware involded, the device is in simulation mode.
The same slow response happens in TestStand when trying to select the virtual device. The selection responses after about 6 minutes, means it takes 6 minutes to list all available virtual devices in MAX.
I have attached the MAX support report, the IVI configuration, the SE virtual device export file and a TS example.
Any help on that problem much appreciated.
Thanks
Matthias

Matthias,
what version of TestStand and NI-Switch are you using?
I was able to load the configuration in MAX and use it from Teststand without such long waiting times.
Stefan
TestStand 4.2.1
NI-Switch 4.0.1
NI-Switch Executive 3.0

Matthias -
I have attempted to reproduce the behavior you described on a clean machine using Developer Suite 2010 but was not successful. Are you still experiencing these issues? If so, could you possibly provide a step by step procedure of the actions you take leading up to this slow behavior?

Manooch,
please see attached my exported IVI configuration and the NISE virtual device. There is no hardware attached.
The pdf describes very briefly what is going on.
Thanks
Matthias

Hi Matthias,
How large is your current Data folder? (This can be found at C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\MAX\Data on Windows 7 or C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\MAX\Data on Windows XP?
Since it appears that you have been upgrading a lot over the years, this slow down is most likely related to fragmentation that built up in your Data folder (specifically the config3.mxs file)
The first thing I would try is to run the MAX Database Corruption Removal Tool, only select "No" on step 6 to delete the entire Data folder. The Data (and Last, another backup), will both be backed up during this process before being deleted, so you can always restore it again if necessary.
Try running that tool to delete your database, restart your computer, and then open MAX. The first time you open MAX it will take a little longer because it is scanning all of your hardware and re-create the database. The next time you open MAX it will be faster. We also want to export your MAX configuration, IVI configuration, and NISE configuration first so you can re-import that configuration and keep any device settings you have.
In summary:
1. Export MAX configuration (File»Export)
2. Save IVI configuration (Select IVI Drivers in the tree, then click "Save IVI Configuration"
3. Export NISE configurations (Right Click on NISE virtual Device»Export
4. Run the MAX Database Corruption Removal Tool to clear Data folder.
5. Restart computer.
6. Launch MAX. Wait for new database to be created.
7. Import MAX configuration (File»Import)
8. Open IVI configuration (Select IVI Drivers in the tree, then click "Open IVI Configuration"
9. Import NISE Virtual Devices.
10. Close MAX.
11. Launch MAX, and try to load Test Panel of an NISE Virtual Device.
Let me know if it still takes minutes to load after doing this.

Hi Eric,
after running the MAX Database Corruption Removal Tool the Test Panel is working now properly and as expected.
Also MAX is launching much quicker now than before.
Many thanks for your quick help and finding the right solution.
Best Regards,
Matthias
