How to limit PXI-5412 CW sine output to a preset number of cycles.

Using the PXI-5412 waveform generator we would like to generate a sequence of CW sine wave pulses.  Each pulse is initiated by an external trigger.  The frequency of each pulse will vary, but we want the duration of each pulse to be 40 cycles.  Looking through the NI examples we cannot find a way to do this.  If necessary it will be acceptable to specify the duration of each pulse in seconds.

Hello Marco

According to your description, I think you need to use the Arbitrary Sequence Mode, specifically the Stepped triggering.

Please check this document (figure 8): Advanced Waveform Sequencing and Triggering on Arbitrary Waveform Generators

In that mode, you can configure the looping mode (repeat the signal 40 times) and the triggers.

You can also find an example in LabVIEW in order to implement this mode by going to the Example Finder>>Hardware Input and Output>>Modular Instruments>>NI-FGEN (Signal Generators)>>Arbitrary Waveform Generation>>Fgen Arb Sequence.vi

Regards

Frank R.
