traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

First, i'm not sure if this is the correct board for this post. please direct me or it to the right one if it is not.

here's the issue. I am using Plexon rasputin software that requires the traditional ni-daq drivers (not the mx type)

I have a windows 7 machine.

can I get these drivers for windows 7? if so, where?

in my old (windows xp) computer my MAX software had 2 sections, one for traditional devices, and one for mx devices. on windows 7, i only see a section for devices, not specified. My boards show up ox and everything, and seem to be installed properly. The issue is that my Plexon software won't recognize those drivers, so I need the traditional type. i hope there is a solution that doesn't involve installing windows xp on this machine. Thanks

Re: traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

Hi anp12,

Thanks for using the NI Discussion Forums.
This is Rutsu Kenmoku from NIJ AE.

The Traditional DAQ is not officially supported on Widows Vista nor on 7, however,
it is said that preliminary testing shows that the the Windows Vista beta driver for Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) works with Windows 7.
Although, it was tested, the driver is unsupported and should not be seen as a permanent solution.

Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) 7.5 Beta

Is there a particular reason for you not using DAQmx?

If you have any questions, please let me know.

Re: traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

Thank you Rutsu for your answer. I will try the 7.5 beta version.

currently i have the ni-daqmx 8.9.5 installed from the CD that came with a different USB 6501 device.

will i need to uninstall anything before installing the 7.5 download?

i know a lot of things can get screwy in windows if things aren't done the right way, so if you could tell me the correct procedure, i would be grateful.

(the reason i need the tradiotnal drivers is that the software i'm using (Plexon) specifically says it will not work with the mx drivers, but only with the traditonal ones)

Re: traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

Hi anp12,

NI DAQ and DAQmx are two different drivers so it should not matter which one you install first as long as you install the software then install the drivers.

One thing I forgot to tell you is that NI DAQ might not work properly on Windows 7 64bit since it might returns an error saying that it is only supported on 32bit.

Do you have Windows 7 64bit?

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards

Re: traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

Hi, I'm still having some problems

i uninstalled my ni software

i installed the ni-daq 7.5 traditional drivers and software you recommended

it came with MAX 4.3, and I clearly saw by boards listed under traditional ni-daq devices. ok

but, i have one ni-daqmx device. so when I installed that software/drivers again, when I check in MAX all the devices are listed under ni-daq mx devices. there is no longer a traditional ni-daq section.

i repeated the procedure again, with the same results, and I also looks at the driver information through the device manager of windows

when i installed the traditional drivers, it lists the driver as nitdvk.sys

however, after adding the mx drivers for my ni-daq mx device, the driver for the traditional devices changes to nisftkw.sys

the mx device is listed as niemrkw.sys

anyway, when i check that directory, it seems that the traditional ones are still there, but i don't know how to make windows use them. when i try to update the driver, windows just tells me i already have the most recent drivers. I guess i don't want the most recent ones for those devices. any suggestions??

Re: traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

There is a known issue with the Traditional NI-DAQ 7.5 beta driver where it may not work correctly if NI-DAQmx is also installed on the machine.  We recommend not having NI-DAQmx on the same computer as the Traditional NI-DAQ 7.5 driver.  There are not plans to make any changes to the beta driver to fix this issue.

Re: traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

Hi,

We have similar issue. Microsoft has stopped selling XP and with new PC  it comes either Vista/Windows 7.

Our cards is the PCI-6023E and only supported under Traditional and Legacy DAQ.  (version 7.41/7.44, version supported on XP,W2K)

The PCs we are using are 9 years old and requires upgrade - urgent attention .

It would be great if we can still keep the cards as they function well and has broken.

Re: traditional ni-daq device drivers in windows 7

The PCI-6023E is supported by the NI-DAQmx driver on Windows 7.  You can check the list of supported devices in the readme on the NI-DAQmx driver download page in order to verify if a device is supported.  You can also check this article: NI-DAQmx and NI-DAQ Driver Support: Main Page which can be found by searching our site or Google for "DAQmx device support".

[ Edited ]

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and want to use a PXI-5112 high speed digitizer. I don't think this card is supported by DAQmx.

Am I out of luck?
