Error When Trying To Run Mousepad on cRIO XFCE Embedded UI

Solved!
Go to solution

Is it possible to run Mousepad (which is similar to Notepad, but for Linux) on the embedded UI of a Linux RT system (specifically, the cRIO-9035)?  This question is similar to the discussion here, except I want to run Mousepad natively in the embedded UI, not through LabVIEW.  This would be handy for editing config files, for example.

In the XFCE desktop, I can open the File Manager, but nothing happens regardless of whether I double-click on a .txt file or right-click on it and select "Open With Mousepad."  If I open up the Terminal window and type in "mousepad", regardless of whether I am "lvuser" or "admin," I get the following message: "(mousepad:####): GLIB-GIO-ERROR **: No GSettings schemas are installed on the system [linefeed] Trace/breakpoint trap" where #### is a 4-digit number and [linefeed] is a linefeed.

Any thoughts?

The best way to view files is going to be through the Linux command line or using the web interface. Being able to double click on a file and open them in a graphic text environment; this isn't possible as it stands.

If you feel that this additional functionality would be useful to others as well as yourself, please visit the NI ideas page on the following link:

Hi,

I reported this issue as bug to our R&D department. This bug is tracked under CAR #624175.

If you want to use a graphic text editor on NI Linux RealTime, you can install leafpad as a workaround.

You can install this package from this feed with opkg:

This worked great!  It didn't really have to be Mousepad.  I just saw that Mousepad was installed by default with XFCE, so I figured it would work.  I don't really care what graphical text editor I use, it is just nice to be able to use a graphical editor (versus a terminal emulator screen) to make quick edits to config files, for example.  Thanks for looking into it!
