Assigning period in timed while loops from local variable

I don't think this is the case. I've selected the 1 MHz clock and the dt in my loop is supposed to be a double. I thought of this as well, but it doesn't connect the wire and lists an error if the data type is different.

I think I figured it out! Silly mistake. I was assigning a value that created the period to be 1000 seconds, when I thought it was running at 1000 Hz.. So in reality it was actually running the whole time but was so slow it seemed like it was not.
