Is PXIe-5645R Vector Signal Transceiver capable of Recording and Playing Back GPS Signals?

Hello NI Team,

We are currently using NI GNSS Simulation Toolkit 3.0 in testing GPS receivers using the VST. We had successfully performed the simulations using GPS VIs that shipped with our VST. Now, we are trying to Record real GPS signals from the outside and Playback inside the Lab. Can this be done using the VST? What other modules and or softwares we need to have this implemented.

Appreciate your help on this.

Hi Nayrf,

Since niGPS uses RFSA/RFSG, you should have the appropriate software and hardware to accomplish a record and playback system. I'd suggest taking a look at this White Paper article that talks about implementation. It references using our Vector Signal Analyzers and Generators, but the Vector Signal Transceiver should be fine.

Nayrf,

The RFSG support for the VSTs does not currently support gapless streaming. Thus, with the RFSG driver you can only steam what can fit in the memory of the VST.

However, NI has implemented a few solution for streaming to/from the VST that use the FPGA to get around the RFSG limitations.

Probably the best way to get the latest version is to use the VI Package Mangager (VIPM) that is installed with LV.  Launch it at search for streaming.

Here is the associated page on ni.com, but on this page it is an older version of the example (easier to update via VIPM).

This VST streaming solution uses FPGA Extensions such that RFSG driver API/capabilies are maintained while adding this adjacent streaming functionality.  There are some other example that do not use FPGA Extensions and therefore wipe out RFSG API/capabilites.

FYI- you do not need LV FPGA to use this, unless you want ot modify the FPGA functionality that NI has implemented for you.

You can use this for record and playback of GPS or other RF signals.
