Examine an open architecture robot controller based on a NI CompactRIO system used to retrofit an industrial SCARA robot. By taking advantage of the reconfigurable I/O (RIO) platform and NI LabVIEW control tools, we developed a three-layer control system and performed motion control on the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) and path planning on the real-time processor and a user interface on a PC.
