pxi-8106 driver

Solved!

Hi,

I need to install windows 7 in a PXI-8106. I found this link with XP/Vista drivers :

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/E4503CC7E8BB41BA86256F7F006CBE8D

Can I install this on windows 7 ?

Thanks

Juan

Hello Juan,

As far as I know (I could be wrong) these controllers were never sold with Windows 7 (by default) installed on them.
Officially the linked set of downloadable drivers does not support Windows 7 and the PXI-8106 does not officially support Windows 7.

Unofficially I can tell you that we do have multiple PXI-8106 controllers at our office running Windows 7

Most of the controller hardware drivers will be automatically found/installed by Windows 7 itself.

So you can try an install of Windows 7 on the controller (at your own risk) and go from there.

It might require you to have some more patience than a direct install from the  ftp download above.

If you encounter any issues, then please post them here and I will do my best to assist you.

Thank you for the answer,

My institution will ban XP before the summer. I am forced to go to windows 7. Yesterday, I installed W7 and, as you say, it installed some drivers (Graphic card , network, usb, ...) but there are several PCI not recognized.

I ran the infinst_autol.exe in the zip file hopping this will solve the problem but nothing changed. For the network interface, it said that the current driver was more recent so I did nothing. For the graphic card I did not tried as it works fine.

I was asking my self it the unrecognized hardware are the Ni modules in the PXI like the ADC, the motion controller ... . In this case I will try to install the drivers separately.
I started with NI-Motion8.5.1
http://www.ni.com/download/ni-motion-8.5.1/4355/en/

I hope this will work and at least the PIX computer will recognize the motion controller.

Hello Juan,

It could indeed be that the unrecognized devices are NI related.

Can you turn off the PXI, remove all PXI cards (except for the controller) and reboot it?

This will allow you to easily check if it is the Motion card or not.

Good point,

I will do it tomorrow as soon as I arrive to the lab.
The Ni-Motion installer has installed the controler drivers, MAX and LabView Run Time.
Now in the device manager I can see the motion controllers 🙂

I see 7 unrecognized PCI devices but I have 4 modules.
PXI-7340 Motion controller
PXI-7831R Reconfigurable I/O
PXI-6602 Timing I/O
PXI-4071 ADC

Hi Thierry,

I detached the 4 modules and restarted the PXI.

The Motion Controller has disapeard as expected, and also 3 PCI Devices.

There are 4 Unistalled devices. I suposse from the PXI-8106 computer or the PXI1044 chassis.

Do you know were to find the missing drivers?

The first has Hardware ID Vendor 1093 = NI and  DEV 71B9 = ??

The second has Hardware ID Vendor 1093 = NI and DEV C801 = GPIB Controller Interface Board

the two last have Hardware ID ACPI\NIC7019 = ??

Hello

1) DEV C801 = GPIB Controller Interface Board

Should be resolved by installing the GPIB drivers:
http://www.ni.com/download/ni-488.2-3.1.2/4360/en/

2) Hardware ID ACPI\NIC7019

Should be resolved by installing the driver  at the bottom of this post:
http://forums.ni.com/t5/PXI/Update-PXI-8110-image-to-Windows-7/td-p/1127928

3) Hardware ID Vendor 1093 = NI and  DEV 71B9

I'm not a 100% sure, but this could be resolved by installing this driver:

http://www.ni.com/download/pxi-platform-services-3.2.3/4186/en/

Points 1 and 3 worked fine. For point 2, drivers were recognized as "Motherboard ressources". I hope this is normal.

Thanks for all
