PXIe-8135 hard drive replacement

Hello,

We have a PXIe-8135 controller which is experiencing performance issues with OEM hard drive.

Is it a relatively painless to upgrade to a newer hard drive and clone existing hard drive to new one?

We don't have the removable hard drive variant.

Thanks,

Hi jharris66,

The hard drive should be fairly easy to swap out of the PXIe-8135. I believe there are four screws that hold it on the controller. When swapping it out just make sure to use another hard drive with the same specifications as the one currently being used in the controller. Those specifications should be located on the hard drive itself.

You should be able to clone the hard drive using Acronis True Image. Here is a link about how to do that: https://kb.acronis.com/content/44741

If for some reason you need to reimage the hard drive here is an article on how to use Acronis True Image to do that: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/C121B7EB066F078D86256D6A0062E317?OpenDocument

Thanks.

We have a Toshiba MK2561GSYN.  This seems to be a SATA Revision 2.0 drive.  Would a replacement SATA Revision 2.0 drive be the best way to go?

You should be fine using practically any SATA 2 or SATA 3 drive in the same form factor; rotating media or solid state technologies are both usable. Newer drives are backwards compatible with older chipsets and vice versa.

Hi jharris66,

Yes I would suggest using another SATA revision 2.0, as that refers to the interface between the hard drive and the controller's board. Just from doing a quick search it looks like the Toshiba drive you have has a SATA revision 2.0 interface. So that should be an acceptable replacement.

Thanks.

Our PXIe-8135 is at customer site.

Is the hard drive the box on top of attached picture?

Yes, the box in the diagram is the hard drive.  It is a 2.5" drive (standard laptop-size drive).

I don't know if this the appropriate area to post but  I have a PXIe-8108 which is showing some failures.   I assume it is ok to swap out the drive?  And possibly use an SSD?

As I have not removed this card what is the physical connector used?    Cloning and imaging is not a problem.

Hi johngardner,

For future reference, you should make a new thread for questions about a different topic so it increases visibility and we can have a dedicated thread to your questions instead of backpacking on an older one. That being said, it is perfectly okay to swap out the drive on your controller. The following articles talk about using SSDs and changing your hard drive on PXI controller in a little more detail.
