PXI 8156B sluggish operation

We have a few 8156B controllers hanging around and want to set one up as a spare for a test stand.
However all these controllers run sluggish and or funky.
One has ~ 160 MB of memory, but the cursor hourglass is always showing and the network will not work no matter what we have tried. We followed NI directions for reinstalling the hardware and drivers but it still is a no go.

The second controller takes forever to do anything. It is really sluggish. 64 MB of memory on this one.
Is there anything that can be done to help these controllers?
Do all the interconnect connectors on the PCBs need to be reseated, etc.
We don't want to send them in for repair due to expense, and a newer controller always screws up are NI module ID locations.

The third one will not boot even from a floppy.
HD Drives are cloned and all are run good in a normally functional 8156B

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Anyone have any suggestions for the flaky controllers?
Has anyone experienced the same issue with their 8156B?

Thanks

Hi KS,

The 815x series is 10 years old, and is obviously old and slower hardware (233MHz Pentium Processor - this is 4 generations old).  I personally think that it's time to invest in some new PXI hardware that can keep up with current software and OS requirements.

However, if you want to try to salvage those controllers, I'd recommend reinstalling Windows 98 or NT on the machines -- anything beyond those operating systems will run very slow.  The problem is that we've stopped updating drivers and support for those OSs.

After installing the OS, you can find drivers at ftp://ftp.ni.com/support/pxi/pxi-815xb/

Thanks,
mike
