No Option to set up PXIe-1078 as target in Labview Project

Hello NI Forum,

I am relatively new to real time programming in LabView.  I have a PXIe-1078 which I would like to use for a DNET application.  I see that the Chassis and the card are functional and showing up in NI Max, but I am unsure of how to reference the PXIe-1078 within a LabView Project.  I have tried to find tutorials to meet this end but have been unable to find anything.  If anyone can give a some information and or tutorials on how to set up the PXIe-1078 within a LabView Project, I would greatly appreciate it.  Thank you for your time.

Hi mcoe12,

With the chassis and card showing up in MAX, we can jump right into how we add a real-time target to a LabVIEW project. I’ve attached an article below that will walk you through this process, starting from the point at which you can see your real-time device show up in MAX.

How to Add a Real-Time Target to a LabVIEW Project:

Also, the LabVIEW Real-Time Getting Started guide might have useful information as you begin to develop in real-time.

Hi,

I have just started using an NI PXIe-1078, and I currently just have the NI PXIe-8375 controller card installed in it. I too cannot seem to add the target to a project. As far as I can tell the device is connected properly. The NI PCIe-8375 card is correctly installed into my PC and it, along with the PXIe-1078 Chassis are both present in MAX, yet when it comes to putting it into a LabVIEW project, I run out of luck. I am currently using LabVIEW 2012 SP1 (just what was already installed on the pc). The kit came with a disc for PXI Platform Services 16.0, is this an indicator I should upgrade to LabVIEW 2016, or is there enough backwards compatibility there?

Sorry for the array of questions, but this is the closest thread to my own circumstances, thanks in advance for any help.

This link shows the hardware you are using should be compatible.

PXI Platform Services is not compatible with LabVIEW 2012 SP1, so you either up grade to LabVIEW 2016 and PXI Platform Services to 16.0, or don’t do any updates.

From your description it isn’t clear what problems you are having.  Are you getting an error? If so where?  Screen shots and VIs are worth a thousand words. - Also, you should probably make a new Forum post if this is a new issue.

I solved my problem in the end. Well, it wasn't a problem, it was unfamiliarity with PXI and DAQmx and all that. My PXIe 1078 has no controller module in it, making it effectively just an extension to the pc it is connected to. The chassis and all my cards appear in MAX, but coming from my prior experiences with an NI Industrial Controller, I was expecting some kind of target to be added to the LabVIEW project, when in reality it's all via the DAQ assistant. A couple of days of cramming knowledge about PXI and DAQmx and it was all clear to me!

I suspect OP had a similar experience, probably had no controller module and therefore didn't have anything to add to a project.

Edit: Thanks for your reply, reminded me to update this in case anyone else falls into this trap!
