Maximum number of PXI cards and chassis

What is the maximum number of PXI chassis that can be daisy chained together or starred together? And from that what is the maximum number of PXI cards?

Thank you!

P.S. They're PXI-1045 Chassis

Hi Dominick,

The maximum number of PXI chassis that can be connected together depends on the number of PCI bridges there are. The maximum number of PCI bridges you can have in your system is 255. IN the cae of the PXI-1045 chassis, each chassis has 2 PCI bridges (18-slots). Therefore to connect to another chassis there has to be another PCI bridge.

Seeing as adding one chassis to the system requires 3 PCI bridges (2 on the chassis, and 1 more to connect to another chassis), we can calculate the number of chassis that can be connected together to be 255/3=85.

There's more information about that in a KnowledgeBase article here.

Hope that helps!
