Do I require the fiber optic controller from micronor to use their MR303 linear encoder or will my PXIe-1086 work instead of the controller.

I am an undergraduate research student in Mechanical Engineering. I am working to create a measurement system which I will be running through an NI PXIe- 1086 DAQ unit.  I require an MRI compatible Displacement sensor for my project. I would like to use the MR303 (Fiberoptic) Linear encoder (http://micronor.com/product/mr303/)  and retrieve the displacement data using my DAQ device. The sales rep at Micronor said that I would need to purchase their MR302-2 OEM Controller for MR30X Series Incremental Encoder (http://micronor.com/product/mr302-2/) to be able to process the signal into my DAQ unit.

My question is would I require the MR302-2 Controller or would my DAQ unit be able to process and control my sensor or would my DAQ device be able to take over the role of the the MR302-2 OEM Controller??

I am new to the world of Data Acquisition and Control Systems being an undergrad, so any assistance you could offer would be great.

Thank you.

Hello TheFlash97,

There are some pieces of information missing. For example, you mentioned the Chassis that you have. But which DAQ card are you actually planning to use to acquire from the sensor?

What you need to check is if the output of the sensor is compatible with the Card that you own or are planning to use.
