Correct Identification for PXI System (8310,1031,6259) in MAX?

Hi!

I got a problem with my new PXI system.
Steps I have done:
- Identify the System as external PC
- Identify the chassis as 1031
- The 6259 is visible under NI DAQmx cards
- pxisys.ini is present in the windows folder
- I can use the card for normal acquisitions

Problems:
- Card doesn´t show up under "chassis", slots 2-4 are empty (card is in slot 2)
- Due to this problem, I can´t use the trigger line for digital channels (want to use the 20MHz timebase as trigger source)

I have tried to deinstall the drivers for the 8310 several times, installed the full visa package and followed the guidlines I found in the knowledgebase and the forum here, but nothing helped so far.

Thanks for your help.

I don´t know why, but today the card shows up in MAX in PXI System->Chassis->... . But the problem stays the same. When I view the card´s propertys in "device location" in the tab "PXI Settings" everything is "unknown".
So I still can´t use the trigger lines.

Anyone got an idea?

Hi Yopp!

Which DAQmx and VISA version are you using?
Which OS and SP are you using?
Do you have admin rights?
Can you send a screen shot from MAX which shows your system.
Do you know this KB: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/DB78BB0797872EF186256AAA006F8CEB?OpenDocument

Hi WolfgangZ!

Daqmx and Visa are the newest from the ni page, I don´t know the exact version numbers, because I am not this PC at the moment. OS is XP SP2 with admin rights. I will take a screenshot tomorrow, when I am at work again.

I have read the topic from the link, but it doesn´t help. I couldn´t find a special pxisys.ini and have no MXI-3 extender.

Yopp,

What is the make and model of the notebook computer do you use?
I linked the Cardbus computer compatibility list below. Can you find your notebook in this list?

You have installed the NI PXI-CardBus8310 Driver Software 1.0, isn't it?

Also it would be helpful to know what Cardbus adapter the computer being used has installed. This can be found in windows device manager under pcmcia adapter, reference attached picture for an example.

You have administrative privileges, isn't it?  The below KB indicates this behavior can be caused from users not logged on with sufficient privileges. Without the privileges the user will not be able to modify the windows file directory and the pxisys.ini file will not get modified making all the devices will show up in MAX as unknown. Also make sure that the PXISYS.INI file is not read only or write protected. You can do this by right clicking on the PXISYS.INI file in the windows directory and then view the properties for the file to see if it is read only.

Why Do the PXI Devices Show Up As Unknown/Empty Under Slot View For My Chassis in MAX 3.x?

Hi Wolfgang,

I was able to solve the problem this morning. From the NI Support I got the advice to deinstall all drivers (daqmx, card bus driver...) and reinstall it without the hardware connected. After doing that, I did the Identification of the PXI System and the card showed up correctly. Also the trigger routing seems to be working now.

Thanks very much for your help!
