Convert a desktop PC to a VeriStand Real-Time Target

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi,

I have to convert a desktop PC to a VeriStand Real-Time Target.

What are the PC requirements to convert the PC to a VeriStand Real-Time Target? Are they the same as the requirements to convert a PC to a LabVIEW Real-Time target?

http://www.ni.com/white-paper/8239/en

What is the procedure to install the Veristand real-time engine to the RT PC? Is it the same as the procedure to install LabVIEW real time to a RT PC?

http://www.ni.com/white-paper/2733/en/#toc4

And do I need to install LabVIEW real-time engine before installing VeriStand real-time engine?

Last question: Can I install the VeriStand Real-Time engine on a PXI-8115 Windows controller by creating a dual boot by myself? (The PXI-8115 can be purchased with Windows or LabVIEW RT or the dual boot Windows/LabVIEW RT.)

Thanks for your answers.

Best Regards.

David

1) yes
2) sort of. Ni veristand's engine is just an application that runs on RT or windows. So once you follow that guide to make the desktop a RT target you can install the NIVS engine application through MAX
3) yes. Remember that nivs engine can run on windows or RT. So if the 8115 runs windows you can run NIVS targeted at yourself. If the 8115 runs RT you would need a separate windows PC and target the 8115 from that. Or you could put hypervisor (if the 8115 supports it) to simultaneously run windows and RT on the 8115 and therefore run the NIVS client on the windows side targeting the veristand engine on the RT side... At roughly a 50% performance penalty

Hi StephenB,

Thanks for your feedback,

2) Does that mean that to convert a desktop PC to a Real-Time Target for VeriStand I have to purchase t he two following licenses:

- LabVIEW Real-Time Deployment License for Standard PC's- ETS RTOS (777849-35) (http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/13751)

- and a NI VeriStand Real-Time Engine (781172-35) (http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/207292)

Or the NI VeriStand Real-Time Engine is sufficient?

Best regards,

David

You need both. However keep in mind the operator and full dev licenses of NIVS come with a real time engine license
