NI Community News

In March, we again welcomed ~1,700 new members and collectively posted close to 5,000 times. Whether you were asking a question, posting a reply, or organizing an online meetup -- all your efforts contribute to making the community a great resource for everyone.

Six thousand posts and hundreds of Kudos. See who joined the first solutions club.

300 marked solutions and 1,200 Kudos in February!

In the month of January, we created 256 solutions and shared 1,100 Kudos.

Our goal for 2022 is to transform NI Community into the fastest and easiest collaboration platform for NI Products. To that end, we have simplified the “Start a Topic” page.  All fields are now found in one column, and each has its own header (‘Attachments’, ‘Notifications’, etc.), adding clarity and ease of use.

We have included screen captures below. This change will go into effect early Wednesday morning.

Update on Friday afternoon: While the change is ready to be released, there is an issue getting changes from our development environment into production. The team is fixing that today and we now plan to release this change on Monday, 21 Feb 2022.

Dear NI Community,

It’s that time of year when many of us do our year in review and give thanks. We are grateful for every person who visits the NI Community—all 4.5 million of you. Together we have written 4,200 solutions and handed out our own thanks, the Kudo, 16,700 times. That is certainly a lot of help and gratitude!

We haven’t published much here this year, but we have been hard at work. Much of our focus has been on back-end improvements to our online community, including email delivery improvements and paying technical debt. This fall, we reduced page load times by an average of 2.5 seconds—a 30% improvement. We are planning some larger changes for 2022: First up will be an update to the “ask a question” process that we hope will help the community answer questions more effectively.

Again, we are thankful every day for your membership and participation in the NI Community. We hope this season is full of joy and connection for you and the ones you love.

You may have seen her name around, but today it’s my pleasure to introduce Jennifer Brown to the NI Community! She joins us with over 10 years of experience in customer service, HR, and community management.

Jennifer’s focus will be the daily work of keeping this amazing community working for you, our community members. She’ll focus on making sure trees are trimmed, the trash is taken out, and members are welcomed and supported.

When she’s not here, she enjoys baking, reading, and catching all the Pokémon.

• Example Programs:
• In the Products and Environment section, the Operating System option now works correctly.
• Example Program authors can now add multiple 'other' items in the Products and Environment section. Previously, 'other' was limited to one item.
• The total number of Products and Environment items that can be added increased to 15.
• User groups:
  • Owner/organizers can now restrict visibility of the list of organizers.
• Removed mentions of Facebook integration from Community help documentation.

Today we made a change to how we send notifications, including those for subscriptions and private messages. This should improve email delivery speed and reduce the chance that emails are marked as spam by automated systems. You will notice that the email address will change slightly. Instead of noreply@ni.com, the email address will be noreply@communitymail.ni.com. You may need to update your address book.

• As suggested by wiebe@CARYA , we have implemented a marker on replies when the reply was written by the original author of the topic. Thank you for the suggestion!
• We have implemented an option on Group Hubs to hide the organizers of groups. Group owners can make this selection on the Group Information page.
• For open groups, the selector hides or shows the list on the group overview page.
• For closed groups, the selector hides or shows the list on the 'request access' page. The list of organizers will always show on the group overview page for closed groups.
• We fixed an issue with a misplaced save button on documents in non-English languages.
