connecting trace to copper area, copper area recedes from trace

I have defined the nets to be the same, I'm not crossing layers, but when I try to connect a trace to the copper area that I created, the copper area shrinks away from the trace .010" (spacing constant). Is there a way to prevent this from happening? (Ultiboard 10.1.1 / win XP). Thanks very much

Right click on copper area and select Properties. In Copper Area Properties dialog box select Copper Area tab. Enable Connected to net and select the desired net from the list.
