Importing a SPICE model (74ALVC16244A) into Multisim

Hi,

Can somebody tell me how to easily import this spice model into Multisim?

The Component Wizard seems complicated. Or can someone help make is model?

Thanks very much!!

Hi

I tried to make a new component by following Multisim component creation tutorial, but I got this message "An error has been found in the Netlist".

And there a bunch of error messages in the simulation tab. This time I am using NC7SZ34 by Fairchild. The mode file ends with .ibs extension.

Can someone help me out?

Hello,

We do not curretly support IBIS files. Which is what you got there.

Hi Miguel V,

Thanks for replying me. The model for 74ALVC16244A I uploaded first actually is a file with .spi extension. I am gusssing this is a spice model.

Can you help me with this model? I got stuck when making a new model and kept getting errors. I also have another model with .sp extension. Does this one work in Multisim?

Thanks you very much!

Hello,

Well the first model you got there is a CIR file containing an HSpice model which we also do not support sorry. We only support SPICE models and XSPICE models. Not LTSpice, HSpice, IBIS, etc.

Hi Miguel V,

Thansk for that information.

I have anther question. Do you support .mod extension model? I need another P mosfet model. I have the .mod file and data sheet. And if this kind of file works for Multisim, how can we deal with the pins. I mean, on the data sheet, there are 8 pins on a chip. When we create the componment, we are creating just one mosfet with three pins, right? I know there is a thing called multi-section componment, but I have no idea how to match the 3 pins in a 8-pin chip using this multi-section componment

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks.

Hi,

Doesn’t worry about the model file extension, as long as the model is a SPICE or PSPICE, in most cases, it will work in Multisim.   The syntax in the model you copied looks like a SPICE model but it doesn’t look complete.  In the attached model, I’ve added an .ends statement so that the SPICE engine doesn’t complain but it may not work correctly if it’s not a complete model.

This model includes a Vtemp pin so I am assuming you can set the model operating temperature with a voltage source.  In the attached circuit, I’ve connected a 27V DC source to the VTEMP pin so this model is set to operate at 27 degree.  Have a look at the following knowledge base to generate a SPICE model from a circuit if you don’t want to show the VTEMP pin:

http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/D1D4AFD6E817CDB986257471006D0F70

It is common to find a SPICE model with fewer pins than the IC.  Any pin that was not modelled should be set to “NC” Multisim Component Wizard model to symbol mapping table.  In this case, the datasheet uses an 8 pin IC but many pins are connected internally so I would stay with a 3 pin MOS symbol.  If you are exporting to layout, when you map the footprint in the Component Wizard, set the drain to pin 5,6,7,8 and the source pin to 1,2 3.

Hi Tien P,

Thank so much for helping me out! I really appreciate it because I got stuck and felt depressed by this stuff for a couple of days and still have no idea. I kept getting error messages every time when I tried to apply the new component in the circuit.

I don't know if I am asking to much. I still have two models to import. One of them is 74LVT04 another one is a NMOS.

Can you help me make these models?

Here is NMOS:
