SHC68-68 for PXI-6255

Solved!
Go to solution

I see the PXI-6255 DAQ module recommends both the SHC68-68-EPM and SHC68-68 for each connector. My question, are there any detailed pinout diagrams for the SHC68-68? Is this a one to one with the DAQ module?

Hi TreyB,

Both SHC68-68-EPM and SHC68-68 cables have one-to-one pin mappings.  Links to our pinout documentation for these cables are below:

    SHC68-68-EPM pinout - http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/DE2D842E545DE64B86256F78006EAB1A

    SHC68-68 pinout - http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/26223F0B830148FD862577770069EBC4

You may notice the two cables have different shielding internally, as well as different twisted pair configurations.  Both are shielded from external noise (the prefix "SH" indicates this).  The SHC68-68-EPM is optimized for mixed signals on our X and M Series devices which contain both analog and digital channels, and it offers extra internal shielding between digital and analog lines for better signal integrity. The SHC68-68 cable offers only twisted pairs and no internal shielding to protect from digital transients because the cable is intended to be used on the analog only connector.

On a similar note. We are looking to purchase several PXI-6225 instrumentation cards (along with the recommended SHC68-68 cabling). We are also developing a custom solution for which we intend to use the same cable (to save money). To design the custom solution properly, we need to know specific cable parameters to ensure circuit stability. I am wondering if there is any manufacturer specification for the cables that would allow us to determine the capacitance and inductance for the 1m and 2m cabling solution.

Thanks,

John

I was able to find this documentation for a similar cable, the SHC68-68 EPM. I'll keep poking around and see if I can find anything. However, these ranges are probably typical for these cables.
