Re: Need help on use DAQ to monitor an analog line while doing other tasks

I read the M-series DAQ documents and it states:

"Mux—Each M Series device has one analog-to-digital converter
(ADC). The multiplexers (mux) route one AI channel at a time to the
ADC through the NI-PGIA."

With this, and since my 'other tasks' including AI measurements of other channels, I will not able to 'multi-task' the DAQ to monitor another line.

I will continue to use a 555 timer IC as my solution.

Thanks again for Bob.

It really depends on the kind of measurement that you are doing. Having multiplexed AI channels does not mean that you cannot monitor multiple channels in tandem, it simply means that the channels are not sampled simultaneously with dedicated ADCs for each channels.

I suggest you take a look at the following links:

http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370466AC-01/mxcncpts/multisimulsamp/

http://www.ni.com/white-paper/4105/en/

Certain applications, like phase analysis of dynamic measurements, require the use of simultaneous sampling. For most generic applications of monitoring independant sensors, multiplexed ADCs work well enough to monitor them in parallel.
