No supported devices found

Hi

When I plug in my NI USB TC-01, a window appears that asks to either 1) autorun or 2) open folder to view contents.  After I click on autoplay, I only get the message "No supported devices found" and the temperature GUI doesn't open.  I'm using Dell laptop with Windows 7, 64bit.

I tried all the laptop's USB ports and I have the power settings on high performance.  I just want the TC-01 to work as a plug and play with the installed software on the USB.  What should I do?

This TC-01 works on every other computer in our lab.  I can plug other devices, like a USB mouse into any of the laptop's ports and it'll work.

Thank You

Hey MKBRL!

The first thing to check is if NI Device Loader has started, follow this knowledge base article to be sure that it has started correctly.

Have you tried plugging it in to different USB ports on that same computer?

If this still does not work correctly, could you please respond with couple screenshots:

1. A screenshot of Device Manager (Start>>Control Panel>>Hardware and Sound>>Device manager) with the DVD/CD ROm drive and Human Interface Devices trees expanded.

2. A screenshot of Measurement and Automation Explorer with the TC01 selected under Devices and Interfaces.

Hi Peter,

Thank you for your quick response and your help.

I have tried all the USB ports on the computer.  I have also tried different NI USB thermcouple device on this computer and had the same problems.  These NI USB thermocouple plug-in-play devices work on other computer's, however, I need the TC-01 to work on this laptop.

I followed the link to the article about " NI Device Loader (nidevldu) and NI Configuration Manager Services Not Starting" to start the service.  I set the computer's reponse to "Restart the Service."  Now when I start up the computer, the NI Device Loader Service is running.

Attached are the photos you requested.

I downloaded the Measurement and Automation program and the NC USB TC-01 shows up.  I've tried running self test, but I get an error message as seen.  When I try to create a task to acquire temperature, I also get an error.

Hi MKBRL,

So no other USB TC01 devices work on this computer, but they all work on other computers. Are these other computers also Windows 7 64-bit?

From Device Manager, doubleclick on your CD-ROM drive and select "Hardware Ids" from the drop down menu. Can you attach a screenshot of what that window displays?

Another thing we can try is to update the firmware on the device following this knowledgebase article.

What I am thinking may be the problem is that you have some software installed on that computer that is interacting with the USB ports and causing some undesired effects. What software is on this computer, but not on the other ones that work correctly?

Have a great day!

Hi Peter,

I attached the photos you requested in my prior post.

I've updated the firmware too.  I compared the software on the compter, but I don't see a difference.  Is there specific software that you've heard of that cuases usb interference?

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron N4410, it's only one month old.  It comes with usb3.0 ports.  I know it should be backwards compatible, but do you think this is an issue?  I don't have any other computers with usb 3.0 ports to test to the TC-01.

What do you think I can do?

Thank You

Hi MKBRL,

I agree with you, the USB 3.0 ports should be backwards compatible. This could potentially be the problem, but without another computer with those ports, we can't be sure.

In device manager, if you doubleclick where it says "NI USB-TC01 USB Device", can you navigate to where the following screen is showing, with the Hardware ID and take a similar screenshot?

Also, what are the other machines that this works correctly for? Are these machines also running Windows 7 64-bit?

Hi Peter

The other machines that work are other laptops and desktop computers which run Windows 7 - 32bit & 64 bit, Windows Vista, Windows XP

The picture you requested is attached.

Thanks MKBRL. With this information, I will continue to research this issue and get back to you when I have new troubleshooting steps.

In the meantime, do you know if you have the DAQmx driver v9.1 or higher installed on this computer? It appears that this device wasn't supported until DAQmx 9.1.

I have DAQmx driver v9.1. The DAQmx driver v9.1 is required even though I want to use the TC-01 only as a plug in play, right?

Thank You

Hello HKBRL,

Thank you for the information you have already supplied. At the moment we are investigating this issue and trying to isolate the source of the problem. As Peter has mentioned before, USB 3.0 should be backwards compatible with older USB device but with all new standards it takes a while to work out all the kinks.

Would you be able to provide additional computer information such as laptop model and USB 3.0 controller used on the laptop? A list of the USB controllers in the Windows Device Manager should be sufficient. Let us know if you can provide this information.
