Excitation of two phases in stepper motor

Hi

 

We are trying to make a rotating table application in our project. We are using SY85STH156 12.5Nm motor and P70530 driver. In our application we need high torque and high velocity. So we need to use our motor in its torque and velocity limits. In this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dmk6zIkj7WM we can see that motor can be used in two phase excitation mode in order to get %30-%40 more torque. So we want to understand how we can use our motor in two phase excitation mode with labview and this driver?

What kind of hardware are you using to send commands to your P70530 drive? NI has it's Motion suite of software tools called NI-Motion or SoftMotion. Are you using any of that in your programming? 

 

Since it looks like the drive and motor are third party products, we here at NI might not be able to provide the best support. I would also get in touch with the motor and drive manufacturer in order to figure out how to get your motor to function in two phase excitation mode. 

 

If you can figure out what signals we need to send to the drive to get it working in this mode, it shouldn't be too hard to that using LabVIEW and some of our DAQ hardware.

Sorry about that! I just realized the P70530 is in fact one of our drives. 

 

I believe you're basically talking about wiring up your motor in Series vs Parallel. A stepper motor may be wired in either series or parallel, depending on the needs of the application. A series-wired motor will deliver more stall torque, but torque drops quickly as velocity increases. A parallel-wired motor typically maintains its (lower-than-series) torque to a higher velocity. If you'd like to wire up your motor in Parallel you'll just have to use the instructions found on the Motor page you provided here http://www.robosan.com.tr/step/sy85sth156.htm. 

 

Since this looks like a third party motor you'll then have to follow the instructions on page 24 of the P70530 manual here http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/P70530manual.pdf#page=24. You'll set the DIP switches to GUI select and then use the P7000GUI Tools Wizard to configure the motor specs.
