Evaluation product installs help files, readme, VB shortcut, etc, but not .exe

Solved!

There is no .exe available after an otherwise apparently successful install of the evaluation version.  Note that this is the 3rd download after the 1st download crashed computer.  Still have almost a month left on evaluation period.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

Elybob,

Measurement Studio is a plugin for Visual Studio, so it does not have a program specific EXE, but after a successful install it will be hooked into Visual Studio every time you run Visual Studio.

What do you see when you go to Start » Programs » National Instruments » Measurement Studio for Visual Studio 6 ? Also do you have examples installed, and if so can you open and run one such as C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\MStudioVS6\VB\Samples\3DGraph\Events ? If not, in Visual Studio 6 can you right click on the toolbar » Components and click and add a NI component such as National Instruments CW 3d Graph 8.0 ? If you cannot do any of these things then Measurement Studio most likely did not install correctly. When the first download crashed your computer when did this happen? After you installed it, when  you ran it, during the download, during the install ? Also how did it crash, did you get any error messages, did it make you restart your system, did y ou get the blue screen of death?

Start » Programs » National Instruments » Measurement Studio shows the Help, Readme, Tools,  and Visual Basic --no examples, no MS icon.

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\National Instruments\MStudioVS6 ---  not present, but CVI and NI-DAQ are there.

When I first loaded MS evaluation version it was present, but error message say some .dll was missing kept popping up, and MS did not work properly.  Attempted to remove and reinstall MS.  Upon removal got screen of blue death and absolutely could not get around it with XP repair or any other approach.  Have now downloaded MS evaluation to a less important computer.

Does order of installation matter?  VB6 first MS second?

Is there a cookie preventing a second download of MS evaluation version even if it is within the trial period?

Thanks,

Bob

Elybob,

There is no cookie that should prevent a second download of Measurement Studio Evaluation. The only restrictions are with time. This is the install order i used when installing Visual Studio 6.0:

  1. Install Visual Studio 6.0 (Make sure to include Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0, if it's not included by default. Obviously not necessary if you're only using VB)
  2. Visual Studio 6.0 Service Pack 6  ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=A8494EDB-2E89-4676-A16A-5C5477CB9713&displa... )
  3. Windows XP Service Pac 3 (SP3) ( http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5B33B5A8-5E76-401F-BE08-1E1555D4F3D4&displa... )
  4. Measurement Studio for Visual Studio 6.
What DLL did your system say was missing?

Had to delete C://NI downloads/msstudiodemo and then download and install it again after VB6.0 was installed.  Appears to be successful based on the fact that the NI active x controls now appear on the opening screen to VB.

Thanks,

Bob
