Windows updates caused NI Vision Runtime license de-activation

Solved!
Go to solution

Hello,

PC Details:

OS: Windows 8.1

NI Software: NI LabVIEW Runtime Engine 2014 SP1. NI Vision Development Module 2014 SP1 Runtime (activated)

Time in Operation: Has been operating for about 6 months.

Description:

  1. Performed Windows updates on Friday 06 Jan 2017
  2. Ran LabVIEW application today, and had the dialog appear (see attached LicensePopup2.jpg)
  3. Went to NI License Manager and found that it was no longer activated, claiming it was activated for a different computer? Did the Windows updates change the Computer ID perhaps? (see attached NiLicenseManager.png)

Does anyone know why a Windows Update would suddenly de-activate the Vision Runtime software?

Thanks

Further details I neglected to mention in original post:

 - I disabled all network connections after performing a Windows Update.

I have now learnt that the Computer ID is dependent on the MAC address of the PC's ethernet adapter.  So by disabling it, I have inadvertantly changed the Computer ID. I will re-enable the ethernet adapter, and re-activate.

I have also discovered that this is a duplicate of an earlier post (interesting that it was also for an NI Vision license):
