Please read the template once (not every iteration unless you need to learn on the fly). This is important to make use of cache. Once the template image used for matching cache is active in template image as extrainfo (will not be saved to disk). The same cache is used for next matching iteration. This helps lot in reducing computations.
What is the timings with your latest code?

Timings with my latest code:
(1) First run - Matching time: 1183 msec.
(2) Second run - Matching time: 784 msec.
(3) Third run - Matching time: 792 msec.

Hello Antony,
My lastest code and lastest template (as attachment).
I use template editor, too. Template editor automatically sets value "max pyramid level to store = 2". I have this value changed now and saved new template (PM_pyramid_template_lv4.png)
Timings with my latest code:
(1) First run - Matching time: 1183 msec.
(2) Second run - Matching time: 784 msec.
(3) Third run - Matching time: 792 msec.
