Ethernet switch and GigE camera

Hello,

Using a CVS 1458 module, which includes 2 GigE ports, is it acceptable to connect 4 camera heads, either using one switch grouping all 4 and only one GigE port, or 2 switches grouping 2 cameras each and therefore using both GigE port (which sounds to be the best solution)? I want to use a resolution of 2048x1088 at 50fps. It is said that it is ok in the product description, but not specified anywhere else in the manual or specs.

Many thanks for your help.

Yes, the problem is to find out if it is acceptable/possible to have 2 cameras connected to one GigE port using a switch. I want "continuous" image recording from both of them.

I want to use a Basler ace with resolution of 2048x1088 and 50 fps frame rate (hope that answers your question). Not sure how to calculate, does that mean my required bandwidth would be 2048x1088=2.2MP at 50fps=110 MB/s?

I read that GigE allows about 100 to 125 MB/s in practice, therefore is it possible to connect both cameras through a switch to this GigE port on the CVS?

Thank you

Look into this KB and related links: Does NI-IMAQdx Support Multiple Cameras on a GigE Switch? http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/EC76AC9B636C6B63862575480003BBFF
Thanks

That is of great help, thank you. So that means the bandwidth will be shared by those two cameras, therefore it is not possible to have 50 fps for both cameras with this resolution, based on my understanding. It would be possible to have for instance 20-25fps, or lower resolution.
