Lookout on Windows 7 VM setup on server

Solved!
Go to solution

We currently have a SCADA running Lookout 6.0.2 and looking to upgrade to 6.7.1.

I have IT interested in running Lookout 6.7.1 on Windows 7 VM on a server.

Anybody has done this? I have tested the Lookout 6.7.1 on a PC with Windows 7, but have no idea if the Lookout will run on VM.

Is it in anyway beneficial to set Lookout this way? Need some information please.

Thank you

Will work fine on a VM so long as the system is Ethernet for communications. I have had mixed results using serial and USB/serial.

HyperV and VMWare

There is not any "advantage" to the VM except maybe backup/recovery if done correctly (different hardware setups, etc.) but can be a good way to share resources for small workloads on a powerful server/machine.

All my but two of my servers are running as VMs on Hyper-V.  The other two are running on VMware enterprise setups (remote).  Everything works great.   I use Ethernet serial server brands such as Moxa or Perle for anything devices that are not native ethernet.  I've even run Ethernet to USB on a couple of occasions, but that can be dicey.
