Sounds like you are trying to connect in the wrong direction. If you are using a URL in remote connection of the pot object it would be a bi-directional connection. Did you try 'edit connections' from the GE object itself? Select the M register for the writable member and the pot object as the new logical connection. This method has two advantages - the remote PLC cannot change the current lookout setting for the register (which would certainly occur with a remote power fail). Also, you can use far more lookout object to control the PLC registers - objects like Expressions and LatchGates that have no remote URL position sources or writable data members.
