Hello there!
LabWindows/CVI can certainly connect with other applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, etc. through ActiveX.
Here is some related documentation: http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/370051Y-01/cvi/libref/cviactivex_automation_libfuncoverview/
You can also run some samples shipping with LabWindows/CVI, that are located in <CVI Install Directory>\samples\activex to learn how this technology interacts with LabWindows/CVI.
Also note, that version 5.5 is no longer supported. Check with the Product Life Cycle Policy page to learn more about this: http://www.ni.com/lwcvi/product-lifecycle/
Best regards!

Hello!
LabWindows/CVI 5.5 is a deprecated version. Upgrading to a newer version is just a recommendation.
However, ActiveX was supported by LabWindows/CVI 5.5, as you can learn from the Release Notes: http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/320689f.pdf
Moreover, the ActiveX samples (e.g. samples\activex\excel\excelevents97.prj, samples\activex\powerpoint\simple.prj, samples\activex\word\wordrpt.prj) are also included in LabWindows/CVi 5.5, which you can use as a starting point for your particular requirements.
Regards,
- Johannes
