what is tdms format

I am trying to save the data I collected from the measurement to the computer. I used the "data storage VIs" as introduced here, http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/3538. However, I find that if I follow the way in that article, the only data format I can choose to save my data is either tdms or tdm. And finally when I opened the tdms file after I stopped my program, I can only see some indexes of the data and cannot see any "real" data from the measurement. I am a little confused about this. What is the difference between *.tdms format and normal format we used like *.dat or *.txt, can *.tdms only save the properties of the data?

It's my first time using the data storage VIs to save the data, maybe this question is too naive 😞

Thanks!

If your opening the file using Excel (you might need a file converter to do this), you might want to check the page tabs at the bottom- the index stuff normally comes up on the first tab and the actual data appears on the second one
