timer stoped by light sensor

Hello,

I have a school science project that I'm doing to test the viscosity of liquids.  I am trying to make a program for my NXT 2.0 that triggers a timer right after a motor moves and drops a marble. Then stops the timer when the marble passes a light sensor at the bottom of a test tube. I can't figure out how to use the timer block and how to get it to display the time on the screen. I also don't know how to stop the timer when the marble passes the light sensor. Any help on the use of the NXT 2.0 timer block would be much appreciated.
