OK, now something crazy. Drop Bob's snippet in a new blank vi and it works. Drop it in the OP vi and the histogram stays blank! (using LV2015)

Aha -- the first LabVIEW Virus!  Drop a Graph into it and it can only display Points and Lines, not Bars ...
