generate sound headphones

I am trying to generate sound on the speakers of my PC using Labview (I am doing this from the Generate Sound.vi). If I change the Device ID no sound. I could play music on the headphones but from labview I can not use the headphones - it always goes to the computer speakers.

This is probably an easy questions but I am stuck.

Is there a second output on your computer for headphones?  Does the motherboard really only have one sound card and disables the speakers when the headphones are plugged in?  These are the situations I can quickly come up with in my head.

thanks for the reply? do you think it is just a windows configuration issue rather then Labview configuration?
