fpga PID require more than 16 bits for data type

Hey all,

Thanks for the responses, I have been away for work and not able to check the replies till now. Yes i realise the feel i would need was rather vague. The reason I was hoping for being able to use more bits in the FPGA PID is that it requires a very high level of accuracy in the control loop down to micro degrees but also needs to be able to work with values up to 360 degrees.

Thinking about it the suggestion of writing my own PID based on the one there may be the best option with the trade off that the integrator may reach its maximum value.
