Re: fitting multiple gaussians to curve

The most important initial parameter is the location.  I've had good results using the peak detector to locate the peaks and estimate the amplitude.  If the peak detector is inconsistent try filtering/smoothing your dataset first, then peak detect to get amplitude and location initial parameters.
