calculating acceleration

hi everybody, i have a question regarding measuring the acceleration. i have a basic idea how to do it but it doesn't work out for me.first of all acceleration is (V0-V1)/time. so what i do is the following: i make a case structure and every two seconds it jumps to true. when this happens the frequency value (coming from a squarewave generator) is transferred to a shift register. after another two seconds the case becomes true again and again this value is read. then these two values have to follow the formula i've given. but i can't find a way to "save" this second value.

hope i make myself a little bit clear on this...

 

hope someone can help me, it's probably something small or stupid. but i just can't find it.. been staring at this for a few hours and trying various things, but without result.
