btm picture for icon

Solved!

Is there a way to substitute a (btm/jpeg) photo for an Icon.  This would be handy to do for an exe that would be indelible and unique to the user.

What is "btm"?  Do you mean "bmp" for bitmap?

If you copy a part of a picture into the clipboard from another app such as MS Paint or an image editing program, you can paste that into the icon when you are in the icon editor.

The most difficult part is making sure you have a picture that is sized for the number of pixels you are going to paste into the icon.  So if you have a large picture, you may have to scale it down in an image editing program to 32 x 32 pixels before copying and pasting into the icon editor.

for apps I am deploying I tend to create ico files using a free icon editor (IcoFx is one I frequently use) http://icofx.ro/
