What is the purpose of the source control project?

Hello,

I'm using Perforce SCM with Labview and I'm trying to understand the purpose of the "Source Control Project" setting.  This is located in the Source Control Settings.  When I click on Change... I can select different parts of our Perforce depot, but I don't understand what impact this has on the way Labview actually makes use of source control.  I've searched around in these forums for a few hours and I can't find anything that explains this.

I am using now SVN, but some time ago I used Microsoft's Visual SourceSafe. The Source Control Project settings will enable some source control functionality directly in the LabVIEW project. You coluld probably perform some actions like check in/out, etc... in the LabVIEW project instead of switching to the Perforce client.
