What is the difference between type def of *.ctl and *.ctt?

Hello,
I am creating some type def in Labview 7.1.  Some of the controls are Enum and some of them are clusters of numbers and strings.  When the controls are saved, some of them are saved as *.ctl  while others are saved as *ctt.  I would like to know the difference between these 2 different file extensions.

I think .ctt is a control template while a ctl is a control.

Thank you for your quick response.

Could you please advise when to use control template and when to use control?
