What is different between the different versions of LabVIEW?

What is the difference between the Full Development System version and the Professional Development System version of LabVIEW? Which has more features?

Also, what's the difference between the Base Development System and the Student Development System versions of LabVIEW? Which has more features?

Base < full < pro. The price is a good indicator of sort order. 😮

Here's a comparison table.

Please let us know if you have more specific questions. 🙂

What kind of project do you have in mind?

How does the Student version compare with the other versions?

The LabVIEW Student edition is basically the full version. It comes in two flavors:

  • LabVIEW Student edition Software Suite DVD: Includes a couple of toolkits
  • LabVIEW Student edition Textbook Bundle: Includes a book

Here is a comparison table

The FAQ explains who qualified to use it.

In a nutshell:

"The LabVIEW Student Edition is available to students, faculty, and staff for personal educational use only. It is not intended for research or institutional use"

VIs opened in the student edition show a watermark.

The links to the comparison tables are still valid so exactly what is confusing? What sort of work will you be doing?

I don't understand 'All functions are equal'. They obviously are not. In the comparison table, you can expand the sections to see more detail.

What's an FSE?

It does look like most of the functions are in each version but there are many advanced features and extra functions only in the Full and Pro versions.  Here's another chart:  http://200.126.14.82/web/NationalInstruments/Instrupedia/instrupedia/test/devchart_1381.htm

Unfortunately there are hundreds of subtle differences so I doubt there is any all encompasing chart that details everything.  It's hard to recommend a particular version unless you know exactly what your customer will be doing in the coming years.

The same is true for toolkits. There are so many. Some can be installed on a base version but others may require at least the full version. Again, it's necessary to know what the client may require. The local NI Sales Engineer should be involved in the discussions.

Hello,

I am very sorry for knowingly resurecting a very old thread, but there is a new version of LabVIEW available now.

Can someone at NI update the below chart to include the Academic version and Home bundle?

http://www.ni.com/labview/buy/

Specifically, I would like to see a detailed fetature list of every version.

The new home bundle version is very interesting, but it is full featured?  Probably not for $50.

How does the home bundle version compare to the Academic version for features?

Also, is the Academic version available to be used by individuals in the Maker community?

I understand the new home bundle is aimed directly towards the Maker group.

Here is a link to the home bundle:

Thanks!
